Kid’s Choice

I’ve been a writer my entire life, as opposed to other professional writers who turn to the written word when they realize they hadn’t bothered to do anything more practical with their lives. Growing up, I’d write everything from ten-page novels (with illustrations!) about how much fourth grade sucks, to volumes of suicidal poetry about how much math sucks. (What do you want from me, I spent eight hours a day trapped behind a school desk.) But deep in my heart, I longed to cast aside my trusty No. 2 pencil, throw my spiral notebook over my shoulder, and fill my insatiable appetite for attention through performing. I wanted applause, I wanted roses, and I wanted to sing show-tunes and have people shout out, “Bravo!” and not “Mommy’s got a headache, stop singing ‘On My Own’ for five minutes, please.”
