Spring 2010: Trend Report

It’s almost time to start thinking about our spring wardrobes. It’s hard to imagine wearing anything but boots and winter coats with all this snow on the ground, but believe it or not, warmer weather is right around the corner. And what’s most exciting is that there was a definite shift in trends on the runways for spring 2010. The looks were less severe and even a bit more feminine, too.
The runways featured lots of crisp white: blazers, asymmetrical dresses, tunics and blouses. YSL, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Hussein Chalayan all featured this stark style. The great thing about the white trend is that we all have some of it in our wardrobes. Take a white dress shirt with a silver belt and you’ve aced this look. Or borrow your boyfriend or brother’s dress shirt, and wear it off your shoulder, belted with white leggings. And if you have an event to go to try mixing things up with a LWD (that’s little white dress). However, I would not wear an LWD to a wedding...

Movin’ on Up
Vidal Sassoon takes its thriving business to Boylston Street

For twenty-odd years or so, if you strolled to the far end of Newbury Street, entered a small lobby and rode the tiny elevator to the fourth floor, you would have found yourself at Vidal Sassoon salon. There, you would have been greeted by a pair of gracious receptionists, offered a hot cup of coffee or tea and led to one of the dozen or so expert stylists on staff. Yes, the quarters would have been cramped, and sure, the space would have seemed a little dingy, but how you felt when you walked through their doors at the end of your service - loving your new style and feeling like a million bucks - would have been worth it.
Good news: Vidal Sassoon has picked up and moved, and everything but the location has remained.
